Excerpt: Aetherial Primer & Narrative Overview

Characters

Boulder

Boulder is a stoic character of few words. He seems gruff, and has a hard time displaying a lot of emotion, but inside he has a big heart and loves to help people using his enormous strength.

Breeze

Breeze is very excitable and enthusiastic. She is constantly on the go and always ready to try new things. Like many people from the Air City, she is an inventor and loves to play with and create new gadgets.

Flame

Flame comes from the Fire City, where everyone is very competitive. He loves games and sports of all kinds, and always strives to be the best at everything he does (although he’s always a good sport about it, win or lose). However, he doesn’t like to win if it’s not a good competition, so he also works hard to train and encourage those around them and make them into worthy opponents.

Splash

Splash is the most calm and mature one of the group. She is very sensitive, and helps to make sure everyone gets along. She comes from a very creative culture, and her chosen art form is dance: Splash loves to dance, and will teach anyone else to do so if they show interest in it.

Jitterbug

Jitterbug is a member of the Error Bug species, who are mostly pests that cause harm and mischief. Jitterbug is a harmless and silly Bug who follows the group around. It doesn’t mean to intentionally cause trouble, but it often finds itself there regardless. It has a special fondness for Boulder, and particularly loves riding on his head. It also loves to collect garbage as its special “treasures.” (Other members of the bug species include Bad Bug and Bitter Bug, antagonistic red and orange bugs, respectively.)

Journey

Meeting: Passage Forest (CS10, Unit 1)

• The characters leave their hometowns, each for their own reasons
• The characters wander around the forest, narrowly missing each other for a while before finally meeting
• The characters are in awe of each other’s abilities, and agree to travel together

• The characters all get over their initial uncertainty and appreciate each other’s differences
• They learn that their cultures’ fear of the unknown / the other may not be warranted

Earth World (CS10, Unit 2)

• The characters arrive at the first destination, the Earth City
• The characters meet Jitterbug
• The mayor is suspicious of the gang, and won’t stop following them around
• The characters try to make themselves useful, using their abilities to improve things around town

• Flame learns to be a coach, using his skills to build up others
